Summary: The goal of the Making Strides program is to develop a district-wide system of best practices to help elementary teachers (especially K-2) manage their language arts program in the classroom. Making Strides will provide training to classroom teachers using the Guided Reading approach and combining it with Interactive Writing, establishing a standard. Consultant Katherine Heap will be hired to spend time in each of the five elementary schools prepping with teachers, small group instructional time (5 students) and debriefing. She will choose appropriate reading material from the Literary Closet, demonstrate interactive reading and writing lessons, work with our Reading Specialists and discuss with the educators what they observed.
