Part I. Applicant and Project Information

Title of project: Capture the motion
Project manager: Elisabeth A. Angus
School: High School
Curriculum: Science

Part II: Grant proposal

Summary: Building a strong, physics lab program at Winchester High School is an essential part of teaching physics. This effort was in good part brought about by a legendary physics teacher who recently retired. Today, we have another team of dedicated physics teachers who very much want to continue this work. Nonetheless, we still have significant gaps in the physics lab program. One of these gaps, is giving students both a quantitative and qualitative experience to “dissect motion”. With limited funds available to the Science Department, physics is only able to maintain what we are currently doing. This grant would enable students to experience how the motion of everyday objects, and not necessarily “sterilized” lab situations, can be analyzed scientifically. This grant would enable students to extend a powerful, learning physics lab experience in to the “real world”.
