Summary: |
A. Program Summary: The Teachers as Scholars Program has been voted by the Winchester High School and Middle School Faculties as “…the most enriching, stimulating and worthwhile professional development program…” available to them through the Winchester Public School System. The mission of TAS is to “…provide teachers with the opportunity to immerse themselves in seminar topics and spend reflective time with their colleagues from other schools…through a rich curriculum across all content areas…” The seminars are conducted at colleges, universities and museums throughout the Greater Boston area including Harvard University, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Tufts University, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Simmons College, Wellesley College, the Massachusetts Historical Society and MIT among others. Teachers return from these seminars return to their classrooms excited, rejuvenated and both professionally and personally enriched. They feel like scholars upon their return and the program substantiates every aspect of lifelong learning which is a core performance standard in the Winchester Public School’s Supervisory and Evaluation System. Most importantly, our students benefit from having their educators return from these programs with a renewed inspiration and love for learning and teaching. The program has been considered so outstanding that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is considering piloting it nationwide. Winchester has been with TAS since its inception. |
