Part II: Grant proposal

Summary: As you may know, under the direction of the former director of Art, Dave Ardito, the WFFE funded our lab many years ago. Since that time there has been no funds, other than basic maintenance, from the town to support this lab. You may not know this but the Mac lab has been moved to the third floor across from the Science labs of WHS. The size of the new space has afforded me the opportunity to reconsider the mission of this lab. In the past the Mac lab merely afforded us an opportunity to teach the computer software program Adobe Photoshop. My hope is to expand this vision and create a true 21st Century Media Lab. Though I graze these areas lightly in my current classes, I wish to include movie making, 3 D animation, CAD and sound performance, drama and recording into our course offerings. I am not only an artist but I am also a sound engineer and musician. I am a current member of WinCam and producer as well. I am looking to expand our relationship with Win Cam! After three years as Art Director here at WHS I have heard from many students who wish to find a place where all creative disciplines can meet, and a true Media Center is a logical step in that direction. We recently had a representative from Apple come to WHS to look at our current Mac Lab and give me an estimate for upgrading our hardware and software. The current machines (hardware) we are using ( EMAC’s) cannot handle any of the latest imaging or audio software that is currently on the market. For Example: We are using a six year old version of Adobe Photoshop CS, which is completely out of step with the current digital world. The machines are so old we could not run the current version Adobe Photoshop CS 4 Extended if we wanted to. We cannot run any animation software at all. Final Cut Pro movie editing software is the industry standard. This program can only be run on Macs. Apple offers training in teaching this movie software, and after proper teacher training I can offer a class that will give our student a certificate from Apple certifying them as an expert in Final cut. This opportunity ties directly into our new STEM imitative here at WHS. My desire is to completely rebuild the MAC lab for the Twenty First Century Learner.
