Summary: |
Snoeshowing is a great form of physical activity. Childhood obesity is on the rise and has become a great concern for our nation and our children’s health statistics. One of our great challenges is getting our children moving during the cold months of winter. Snowshoeing provides a great form of cardiovascular activity, while still offering a safe and low impact form of exercise that is great for any age level. Snowshoeing, like many winter sports, can still provide cardiovascular, aerobic and weight control benefits that other popular forms of exercise done in warmer climates can. In Physical Education, we strive to teach students how important exercise is over their lifetime, and it is important to allow students to experience many different forms of physical activity. Snowshoeing provides a familiarity with an exercise that can be done over their lifetime in the cold, snowy days we often experience in Winchester.
Snowshoeing would be a great addition to the physical education curriculum at Ambrose Elementary school. It would provide a new activity outdoors when our students gravitate inside all too often. Students would gain from learning about the terminology, safety, and health benefits that this outdoor sport can provide.
