Although the importance of good sportsmanship and effectively cooperating with classmates are stressed in [those] activities, not all students feel comfortable and confident actively engaging in team sports. The same anchors can be instilled using activities that do not require all students to have proficient hand-eye coordination; a traverse wall provides students of all abilities numerous opportunities to interact in a cooperative and respectful manner with peers in order to achieve a common goal. In addition to developing social and emotional skills, traverse walls improve locomotor skills, balance, coordination, muscular strength and muscular endurance. Activities utilizing a traverse wall can allow all students new and innovative opportunities to improve physical fitness as well as assisting in the development of social and emotional health via an adventure based curriculum.
