Summary: |
The third grade science curriculum focuses on different forms of energy with identified learning outcomes in the subtopics of solar energy, magnetism, electricity, light and sound. The subtopics are engaging and the children develop a basic understanding of these energy forms in isolation. One of the greatest challenges of teaching the unit on energy to third graders, is guiding the students to recognize and understand the interconnectedness between the forms of energy. Supporting the third grade students in the building of electromagnets will allow my colleagues and I to guide the students to a better understanding of the individual energy concepts, of magnets and electricity and their interrelationship in many simple and complex machines that they utilize in their daily lives.
