Part II: Grant proposal

Summary: This grant is a request to fund TWO mobile media studios (Padcaster and iPad) for student and teacher use— One for Ambrose Elementary and one for Vinson-Owen Elementary. Many tools, techniques, and new projects are introduced every year in an effort to engage, differentiate and help to reach all learners. Over the past three years, the introduction of the Green Screen has ignited students and teachers beyond imaginable with a renewed interest in media creation; starting with simple layered images and progressing to everything from newscasting with green screen news sets and field reporting, to stop action animation, and to story retelling with green painted pizza boxes and puppets. This began with one of my 2 hour PDs on DoInk Green Screen for teachers and has continued to exponentially grow due to the excitement and drive from students to expand their creative ideas and their thirst to learn more. Once students find out that they can make their ideas turn into real projects, they are eager to figure out how to go the next level and are amazed by what they can accomplish. Teachers have used student excitement with Green Screen to adapt expectations and assessments to allow the choice of media creation. Currently this technology, creating photos and videos, is used at all grade levels, including Kindergarten and in all disciplines, as well as SEL and RULER. We have gone from one portable green screen, now to yards of portable green cloth; and when my painted green wall wasn’t enough, our librarian painted another wall in the library for library projects and more availability for classrooms.
