Summary: |
The district kindergarten teachers (15) and the Preschool Case Manager would like to attend a two-day Lesley University conference "Literacy for All" in November 2008. This conference provides workshops and seminars related to best literacy practices from the finest trainers and practitioners in the field of literacy learning. The Winchester students would benefit as the teachers, representing all five district elementary schools, would leave the conference with a better understanding of the current research-based
practices in the field of education and inspired to take those practices back to their classrooms. Kindergarten programs provides a solid foundation upon which to build reading and writing skills. After attending the conference the teachers would create, under the leadership of the school principal or literacy coach, Professional Learning Communities (PLC). The PLCs would meet regularly to share best practices, classroom activities/experiences and provide a base upon which kindergarten students will have similar learning experience across the district.
