Summary: |
This project is intended to give students the opportunity to access the curriculum using the Ipad. Many students in my program have Autism Spectrum Disorders, making it difficult to access curriculum due to communication, attention, sensory, cognitive, behavioral and fine motor issues. The Ipad has been shown in numerous studies to increase academic engagement when compared to the use of traditional materials. When my classroom was loaned an Ipad this year, I was able to use this tool not only to motivate, but to increase learning with my students. Some specific examples of the way the Ipad was utilized with my students include: using apps for flashcards, downloading animated stories that were studied in classrooms, using tracing/writing apps to increase fine motor (which actually resulted in an increase in writing production in the classroom). These are just a few of the many ways my classroom utilized the Ipad. The Ipad can store a lot of academic content in 1 place. It can also have individual student folders, with "apps" specific to a student's academic need and IEP goals. Finally, the Ipad is easy to transport between the general education classroom and learning center. |
