This two day training is an intensive opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) in order to support the most needy young communicators in our Winchester community. PECS is a research based communication approach to be used with nonverbal or minimally verbal students. Focal points of the PECS program include approaching and initiating with communication partners, communicative spontaneity, picture discrimination, expanding vocabulary, building sentences, and categorization-- all of which create a functional communicative foundation. This concentrated training will build on the initial exposure/ overview received at a workshop held in January 2015. |
