The Winchester Public Schools art department is hoping to attend the annual NAEA (National Art Education Association) conference. Every year NAEA takes place in a different U.S. city, and this year it will be in Boston. This is very exciting because it means that art education professionals from all over the country will be coming together right here in Massachusetts to share knowledge and best practices.
As someone who has participated and presented in professional development specifically tailored to art teachers, I can attest that these experiences are extremely unique and valuable. Since most school-wide or district-wide PDs focus on the core subjects, specialists like art teachers often have fewer takeaways than academic classroom teachers. Hearing from other art educators allows us to discuss content that is more relevant and meaningful to our teaching practices. |
