Part II: Grant proposal |
|
Summary: |
The Vinson-Owen community has been busy revitalizing the Science Park since returning to our new building in September 2013. Students have participated in seasonal walks of the park led by naturalist, Boot Boutwell, of the Mass Audubon Society. Teachers and students have been very enthusiastic about incorporating the Science Park into their classroom experience again. We wish to expand on this resource and propose creating a butterfly garden that will border the edge of the Science Park. This park will be a springboard for a myriad of interactive experiences for students and teachers.
Topics normally limited to the classroom can be brought to life through the butterfly garden. In brainstorming sessions with teachers, potential educational uses of this garden include: butterfly life cycle, pollination, water cycle, weather patterns, energy conversion, data gathering, en plein air painting sessions, outdoor music performances, reading sessions, historical studies, and creative writing and poetry sessions. The opportunities are truly endless.
