Part II: Grant proposal

Summary: The PACCES program has been running for about 5 years at the high school, but we are hoping to expand to include activities outside of the classroom. In PACCES, we target perspective-taking, advocacy, coping skills, communication, executive functioning, and self-awareness. All of these are very important skills to generalize outside of school and apply to real-life situations. As a means of motivating efficient student participation within the group, we have introduced the idea of voting on a field trip for the end of each semester. If the students fully participate in the group each day, they earn a vote towards where to go on the field trip. Towards the end of the semester, we plan to identify the winning field trip choice and work together as a group to plan out the necessary details: gaining approval, advocating to teachers about missed classes, scheduling transportation, organizing a timeline for the day, etc. We strongly believe that this will be a motivator for the students but also a great way to practice generalization of these skills outside of the school environment.
