Summary: |
Library collections must be diverse and inclusive, offering windows into, and reflections of the vast array of people, stories and experiences that make up our world. Developing a diverse collection of books for Lincoln School is extremely important for promoting inclusion, equity, social-emotional skills, and social justice among our students and staff. For each child and staff member to enter our library and be able to see themselves and their culture reflected in our literature and displays would give them the opportunity to really know they’re valued members of the Lincoln community, Winchester, and the wider world. Providing more culturally relevant books will help students as they grow into their identities and help build their empathy skills by reading about diverse perspectives and cultures. I am excited to revitalize our collection and provide more windows and mirrors for our community in the form of culturally relevant literature, monthly diversity displays, and social-emotional literature that connects to the RULER program. |
