| Summary: | Grading for equity is the large umbrella that involves in-depth supports and mind shifts in a wide area of practices.  It involves making sure that student grades are accurate, bias-resistant, and not the motivating reason for achievement.  This typically involves intense emotions for all stakeholders.  Standards-based grading is a cognitive shift that is less emotional and is a smaller scale effort.  Standards-based grading “nests” within grading for equity. 
This grant excites us as secondary students may see grading that is “done to them,” often incorporating behaviors rather than a mastery of skills.  They see “the grade” as the goal, rather than the learning of the skills/standards. Lastly, practices are often inequitable between classrooms and students.  We are excited to help make the shift to students as active participants in their learning AND grades/assessments, help students see the learning of the specific skills and standards as the true goal, and “level the playing field” between classrooms and students. |
