Funding for the Vinson-Owen first grade team to attend the 24th Annual July Institute on the Teaching of Writing. A five day institute, offered by the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project of Columbia Univ., is designed for those who are "committed to turning classrooms into richly literate reading and writing workshops." The insitute features nationally renowned keynote speakers such as Lucy Calkins, Eloise Greenfield, and Georgia Heard. Topics to be discussed include assessment-based instruction, holding students accountable for their best works, and units of study in the writing workshop. |
