Applicant and Project Information   Title of project: Rave-O Professional Development Project manager: Pamela Bishop School: Lincoln Curriculum: Reading writing   Part II: Grant proposal   Summary: Students who are struggling readers may require a prescriptive, multi-sensory approach to instruction that can be delivered by programs such as Wilson or Orton-Gillingham. However, these programs require additional lesson development to target appropriate syntax and semantics of the words that are being taught. With the RAVE-O program, the student is not only required to learn the targeted phonetic patterns, but explicit teaching is also done to incorporate the student’s ability to identify morphological roots and affixes, grammatical uses, and multiple meanings into each lesson. This aids the student with their overall vocabulary development and language comprehension. Currently, the Wilson program is being used at Lincoln as a tool to instruct struggling readers. With the use of RAVE-O, students will be able to learn the required phonetic patterns for reading, as well as gain a deeper understanding for language structure and use.
