Summary: |
We are seeking funding to host a Home Grown Institute on writing in Winchester this summer. This four-day institute, offered by the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project of Columbia University, is designed for those who are “committed to turning classrooms into richly literate reading and writing workshops.” The institute will be similar to that being held in NY. Participants at the training will receive information on how to establish successful writing atmospheres in their classrooms. Topics to be discussed include assessment-based instruction, inspiring students to see themselves as writers, and holding students accountable for their best work. Twenty-five faculty members will be able to participate. Because of the success of last summer’s institute, we hope to extend the pilot to more teachers – the district will then take over long-term training for staff. |
