Part II: Grant proposal |
|
Summary: |
As Winchester begins to evaluate potential technologies and protocols for moving to 1:1 computing technologies, it is important for classroom teachers to evaluate the potential of these technologies in actual classrooms. As the only non-technology teacher at WHS who currently practices 1:1 computing, I would like to test android tablets in comparison to the laptops I use daily.
I propose purchasing five tablets with docking stations (Asus eee Transformer Prime) to see if they have the computing power, ease of use, and reliability to compete with laptop computers. One tablet will be used by the teacher to evaluate apps and to evaluate available content and the other four units will be used by students. The student tablets will be loaded with digital texts and will replace not only the hard copies of the texts taught in class, but will also take the place of the computers they would normally use in our 1:1 classroom. Students will be required to report on their experience and these findings will be made available to concerned parties of the Winchester Public Schools, the WHS 1:1 computing committee, and to WFEE.
