I am a Psychologist at the High School and work with many students with anxiety, students on the Autism Spectrum, and students who have attention difficulties. I recently ordered "calm strips" online for myself and gave a couple to my most anxious students. These strips (https://calmstrips.com/) are a discreet and effective way to manage anxiety and help improve focus. When our bodies enter fight or flight, using a fidget/sensory tool helps to ground us and calm our sensory nervous system. The strips can are adhesive and can be stuck on lap tops, phones, notebooks, etc. After giving them to just a few students, I had students that I do not even work with come find me and ask, "is this where I get the calming strips?" I ordered 20 more and within just a few days am out again. Our students are living in the midst of a mental health crisis and we have seen a dramatic increase in students with anxiety, school refusal cases, and students leaving class. It excites to me to be able to provide students with a discrete tool that can help to ground them, help them manage anxiety, improve focus, and help keep them in the classroom. |
