Summary: |
In the spring of 2016, Winchester Public Schools introduced the math department to Kagan Structures for Math in a one-day workshop in Winchester. The excitement of the course leader, my math colleagues, and ultimately my students led me to attend the Kagan Summer Academy 2016 to complete the five day Kagan Structures Level 1: Cooperative Learning. The experience changed my teaching for the better. Attending the workshop (1) allowed me to collaborate with teachers from around the U.S.; (2) enabled me to understand the difference between group work and true cooperative learning; (3) has helped all of my students be engaged in a more meaningful way on a daily basis in my math classroom; and (4) has enabled me to collaborate with McCall math teachers from grades 6-8 on how to reach all learners using specific Kagan activities.
Attending the five day Kagan Structures Level II: Engage Every Intelligence in Every Learner would (1) allow me to again collaborate with teachers from around the U.S.; (2) enable me to add the eight Multiple Intelligences into my lessons on a daily basis; and (3) provide my students with a caring classroom where their unique talents would be recognized to maximize learning.
